How can I get tickets?

Tickets are available on this website or at the gate.  Parking is free at the event.  Children five and under are free. Purchasing tickets in advance thru the website will get you quikcer access to the festival.

What happens if it rains?

It is a rain or shine event, meaning it will take place.  If there is lightning in the area, we will suspend the event for a period of time, as recommended by the local authorities.

Can I re-enter the festival?

When you check in you will be given an arm band.  Your arm band is good for the entire day(s) that you paid for.

Where and when is the festival taking place in 2027?

We will be at Point Mallard Park again in 2027.   The dates are 20 and 21 March.  The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. to the public.

What are Highland Games?

The Highland Games are traditional Scottish athletic events that test strength, skill, and endurance — including the Caber Toss, Stone Put, Hammer Throw, and more. Athletes from across the Eastern United States come to compete and carry on centuries of Scottish tradition!

What kind of entertainment can I expect?

You’ll enjoy live music, bagpipe bands, cultural exhibits, and family-friendly performances throughout the day. The festival blends heritage, art, and community into one unforgettable experience.

I understand you have a children's area.  Can you tell me more about it?

Our children's area is providing a little look at the athletics that the Highland Games Athletes are competing in.  It allows children five to ten years old to participate in a mini–Highland Games. Parents must accompany their children in the area and sign a waiver for their child to participate.

Question 8

I am wondering about passport books that the children receive.  Can you elaborate?

The Passport books are available at the Children's area and are meant for children five to ten years old.  A child must be present to get the Passport Book.  The Book is meant to encourage the child to visit each clan tent and perhaps get autographs from people willing to sign their books.  There are no prizes for completing a book as the book in itself is a prize.

Will there be food and drink available?

We will have food trucks and trailers just outside the gate.  With your armband you can enter and exit the festival at will to visit them.  There are also some food vendors mixed into the vendor area.  We do our best to get a variety of offerings that will tempt your taste buds.

Can I bring a dog?

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome at the festival! Please clean up after your pets and ensure they’re comfortable with crowds and loud sounds (bagpipes, drums, and cheers!).

Do I need to be Scottish to attend?

Not at all! Everyone is welcome. Whether you’re celebrating your heritage or simply curious about Scottish culture — this event is for you.  We hope you learn something about Scottish people.

What can do besides watch the athletic events?

You can visit Clan Tents, shop artisan vendors, learn about genealogy, enjoy the childrens area, watch our entertainers, and take part in cultural workshops. There’s something for everyone!

What about parking at the event?

Parking is first come, first serve.  There is ample handicap parking near the entrance.  The entire parks parking area is available to part in.  Parking is free!

Who hosts this event?

The North Alabama Scottish Festival & Highland Games is hosted by a dedicated team of volunteers and cultural organizations who are passionate about preserving and celebrating Scottish heritage in the North Alabama Region.  The Highland Games portion of the event is Hosted by Backyard Rebellion, an organization specializing in athletic events across the region.

What can I bring through the gate?

Accepted Answer

Lawn chairs or blankets. No personal tents or canopies are to be erected. There are no personal coolers, food or drinks are allowed inside the festival boundaries.  You may exit the festival and return to your vehicle as many times as you care to.  The wrist band gets you re-entry.
